There’s been a lot of buzz going around about a Zelda game on Wii. Well, I want to colaborate all the facts we currently have, and discuss possible outcomes from the gaming guru, Shigeru Miyamoto.
In Famitsu (A Japanese weekly gaming magazine)’s 1000th issue, Mr. Miyamoto was interviewed. He was asked about the future of the hit Mario and Zelda franchises. His reply to that, was: “Don’t worry, more Mario, Zelda, and lots more surprises are on the way. I’m making ‘em all. (laugh)”
In the interview, there was plenty of talk about Wii, and how the controllers were influenced. Miyamoto: “We made it (The GameCube Controller) as a culmination of everything leading up to it, but it’s really underwhelmed. ‘This line of thinking doesn’t give us anything else to shoot for, does it?’ That’s how I felt. The GameCube controller is a product of us feeling that, without this or that, people wouldn’t be able to play the games we make. But then we realized that was a problem, that we were thinking based on that controller as the premise.” Miyamoto is merely verifying that the control scheme’s additions were what they focused on so largely, but instead they should have been focusing on simplicity and the intuitive aspects of the controller. The Wii Remote is obviously the work of this theory.
In another interview with 1-UP, Miyamoto says this:
“I think we’d gotten to a point where videogames were something that everyone could no longer enjoy. As a designer, I’m always focusing on what is fun — ideas that people can enjoy. For me, I’m trying to entertain as many people as I can, creating games that the widest number of people can enjoy. Of course, that being said, we do have the existing teams at Nintendo working on the kinds of products we’ve always made over the years. The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games! But to me, it’s about finding these new interactive experiences and bringing them to people.”
This is an obvious hint from the multi-talented game creator that a new Zelda is arriving! And with intuitive controls! (I can’t wait to swing my Wii Remote and slash Ganondorf with the Master Sword =D)
Also, Reggie Fils-Aime, (President of Nintendo of America) announced this: “There’s gonna be a big game for the holiday that the gamers will want. All I can tell you is what we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited.”
He could possibly be reffering to the new Zelda gmae everyone’s been waiting for
On top of that, a rumor’s been spread about Retro Studios: “US development house, Retro Studios, better known as the guys behind the successful Metroid Prime trilogy, is currently working on a new Zelda title that could be announced as early as E3.”
Now, if we add the five facts together, we get a theory of a new and improved control scheme to go along with a brand new Zelda title coming this Winter! =D We can only wait until E3!(E3 2008’s pending date is set for July 15th-17th) Anyone else have any theories on what the next Zelda will be like?

*thoughtful* Most likely a sequel to Twilight Princess. That would be the best choice. I mean, Miyamoto can’t ingore the fact that it sold 34 million copies in the first week. A sequel would just shoot off the charts like a rocket into space. The only thing they’d need to improve is the terrain. It’s big and vast, like it should be, but players probably felt dwarfed by it. I myself enjoyed it, but got the feeling of impending doom around every corner and canyon. If they added things to fill up the space, it might not be so intimidating and time-consuming.
As for game-play, sweet.
Music can’t be improved, I’m saying that right now. Unless they pull off a Majora scheme. Then it could exeed the required level of awesomeness for a Zelda game 100 fold.
What if it’s like Majora’s Mask and we revisited the ol’ mask gameplay? With the Wii’s improved system, there is no way that could go wrong. I’d shoot myself if it didn’t sell at least 100 million copies in the first month.
Comment by Gravemind May 10, 2008 @ 1:01 amOh, I forgot to add, the next Zelda should be online. I mean, think of the posibilities!! Although, using Mii’s in great games kinda lags from the game’s awesomeness, so they’ll need to allow multiple characters for online to distinguish a difference. A screen full of 10 billion Links can be quite a problem
Comment by mario64mario May 10, 2008 @ 6:14 pmThis article does not fit with the blog. This blog has apparently turned into a everything blog.
Comment by Shadow Luigi May 11, 2008 @ 4:39 pmSorry, but if you noticed the ‘Updated’ widget at the top, I have announced that Super Mario’s Blog is now a hybrid site of Super Mario and Legend of Zelda. Sorry for the inconvenience of not making another article outlining this change, but I will soon. I didn’t want this article to get pushed down and ignored. I worked pretty hard on it.
Comment by mario64mario May 11, 2008 @ 8:21 pmAwesome! Can I be a joint operator? I mean… my blog IS Zelda… and nice template, btw.
@ article: ONLINE?!! I never thought it possible. That is amazing, and I would be the first one there.
Comment by Gravemind May 12, 2008 @ 4:32 pm@ Joint Operator – not on this site. I’m moving to a new host soon. Maybe on the new one.
Comment by mario64mario May 12, 2008 @ 4:40 pm@ template – thanks. Im thinking of changing the site’s name to ‘The Legend of Mario’.
@ everyone – about the title –> What do you think?
@ article – yea, it was highly rumored that TP was going to be online, but you saw how that turned out. It’s because they rushed it, and shoved it out on release.
That’s only too true.
@ title: Sounds nice, but a bit flashy.
@Joint Operator: Sounds cool.

Keep up the good work.
Comment by dstcoyote22 May 15, 2008 @ 6:10 pmThanks for the support =D! I want to post the banner I made, but I can’t fully agree with the title. What do you think?
Comment by mario64mario May 15, 2008 @ 6:20 pmI think it’s fine. Ideas that have been thought are better used then left alone.
Comment by Gravemind May 17, 2008 @ 4:10 pmnice.
Comment by mario64mario May 17, 2008 @ 4:47 pmIt should no doubt be a sequel. The game should show the actual link between TP and Wind Waker. It also should include the Wolf ability again because it made TP the best. Even if it didn’t link the two games it still should follow TP. As for the holiday release, all things are possible.
